Our deer are classified as desert mule deer.  Elevations range 4800-6300 feet.  Terrain varies from steep brushy canyons to wide open flat deserts.  The desert habitat does not support large populations of deer.  On the 55,000 acre ranch we estimate our resident deer population to be around 100-120 does and 35-45 mature bucks (not counting spikes and forked horns). Quality of bucks is good due to limited hunting.  Depending on time of year and weather conditions, we usually see a combined total 10-25 different mature bucks during a 5 day hunt.  We do a lot of walking and a whole lot of glassing.  Hunters must be in good physical condition and be able and willing to walk several miles per day in order to be successful. Currently all but two bucks taken have qualified for the SCI record book.
